Manage Historical Gift Cards

If you previously used another cash register that produced gift cards, you can redeem them as a payment method in Sitoo POS. In this article we will review what you need to do to handle so-called Historical Gift Cards and what to do when your customer wants to pay with such a gift card.

Activate External gift cards 

Create a product group named Gift card

1. Go to Sitoo Backoffice > Settings > Product Group & Sales Tax.
2. Click the add icon at the upper left corner
3. Add a product group that you name Gift Card.
4. Select Type Gift Card.
5. Set Sales Tax to 0.
6. Save.

Add at least one product using the product group gift card 

1. Go to Sitoo Backoffice > Products.
2. Click the add icon at the upper left corner
3. Name the product gift card.
4. Scroll down to the pricing section.
5. Enter 0 if you want to be able to edit the gift card price directly in the POS when sold. Enter a fixed price if you want to sell gift card to a predefined price.
6. Scroll to the section Product Groups & Sales Tax.
7. Choose gift card.
8. Scroll down to the Stock and Delivery section.
9. Deselect Activate Stock Handling.
10. Click save.
     

Add a gift card payment option

1. Go to Sitoo Backoffice > Settings > POS Payment Options.
2. Click the add icon at the upper left corner
3. Enter External gift card in the empty textbox. 
4. Choose payment method Custom Method 5.
5. Click Save.
6. Now you have a new payment method on the cash register.

You are now able to sell gift cards on your cash register and pay with a payment method called gift Card. Sitoo does not produce gift cards or stores transactions for gift cards. However, you can create reports on your payment methods and use it as the basis for your bookkeeping.

How to sell gift cards

Selling a gift card does not differ much from selling any other product. Add the product gift card to the shopping cart. Choose whether you want to sell the gift card with a predetermined amount or if you want to add any amount when you sell the gift card. 

Use gift card as means of payment

1. When the customer wants to use this kind of gift card, select External gift Card as payment method in the payment step.
2. You can combine gift cards with other payment methods. For example, if the customer has a gift card of 500 € and the product costs 1000 €, the remaining amount can be paid with other payment methods such as credit card, cash och another gift card.

External gift card refund

You can make a refund of a purchased external gift card just like any other  product.

1. Add the product External gift card to the shopping cart and enter the correct amount.
2. Press Refund and and Manual.
3. Continue by pressing Refund.
4. Finally, select the payment method for which the purchase will be refunded.
